My host family, Ufuk (horizon) staying warm and waiting for dinner to be heated. She prepared dinner on a wood burning stove for the men and then left to be with the other village women. Watching the sun set over Istanbul as boats glide along the Bosphorus, beautiful! One week down, nine to go. Almost didn’t make it. Not because of any travel glitch, rather self-doubt about what I was doing. Ten weeks, all in Turkey? I thought I had everything under control in the airport…until I walked outside. As the doors slid shut behind me, nothing could have prepared me for what I felt at that instant. What have I done? All my excitement...

We have a tendency to define who we are by what we do. In that sense….I am an architect, a photographer, a mountain biker, road biker, skier, snowboarder, hiker, traveler, and search and rescue volunteer. At the moment, it is difficult for me to describe myself any other way for it is all of these that, in addition to the people I meet and cultures I experience, shape who I am. I am me!
As an Architect, I design houses, shaping people’s dreams and ideas into reality. Sometimes I like to think of photography as the opposite, taking reality and shaping it into a dreams. I’ll update this from time to time or as often as wit and wisdom strike. I’m currently planning an extended trip to travel around Africa and see which way the wind blows me. I’ll take photographs along the way and try to post my experiences as often as technology allows.
